MW Bro. Dan Olmsted - October 2020 Musings
|"Dispensing Light through Happiness”|
October was the eighth month when the year was but ten months, before the reforming of the calendar by Julius Caesar. Its name was taken from the Latin word that means “eight.” After January and February were added its name was not changed.
Brethren: This is a favorite time of year for me: the crispness of the morning air, the warm sun in the afternoon, the cool evenings. Harvest grains are in the bin, fresh vegetables from the garden are gathered, fruit, pickles and jam are being canned. We can be grateful for the bountiful harvest that has been provided for us.
We are all anxious to return to our Lodges to greet and meet our brothers. We would like to resume degree work and bring new members into the fold. Guidelines are being developed to resume balloting, degree work and installation of officers. These guidelines should be approved this month and Lodges can again resume work.
COVID cases are on the uptick world wide and we must remain vigilant in practicing the guidelines set out by the
Saskatchewan Health Authority to keep us and our loved ones safe.
Truth: is the possession of being in harmony with facts or reality.
It has been the age-long quest of man to search for the truth about the universe, life, and life hereafter. It is difficult at best, seeking truth in a world that is in hyper-drive and where information is of great abundance. It is more important than ever to seek the truth with a balanced view and not be influenced by our own prejudices and passions.
As Freemasons we are encouraged to always seek and speak the truth in all aspects of our lives. We are especially encouraged to seek moral truth. To be in possession of the divine truth would be to achieve perfection. The divine truth may not be achieved in this life, not until we shall have passed to a higher state of existence.
Truths of Freemasonry are veiled in allegory and symbols. The truths are hidden in plain sight in our rituals and ceremonies although the deeper meanings of these truths are concealed beneath the surface. These deeper meanings are revealed only to the those Masons by reflection and the concerted effort of studying the rituals. Finding these truths may be difficult but the more you work at it the easier it will come.
“The way to choose happiness is to follow what is right and real and the truth for you.”
“If an illusion makes a man happy, destroy that illusion! Because happiness must come via the truth!”
