In June 19, 2010 Most Worshipful Brother Ernie Butz from Regina was elected an Installed as the Grand Master of the Worshipful Grand Lodge of Saskatchewan as Saskatchewan Freemasons gather together in Prince Albert for their 104th Grand Lodge Annual Communication

Ernie was born and raised in the Regina Area. At the age of 12 he moved to Regina from the family farm after his dad’s retirement. Ernie graduated from Balfour Technical Collegiate in 1964 and started working for Bowman Bros., and then went to work at Silverwood Dairies. After a few years he started working for Molson’s Brewery and retiring after 32 years of service.

In 1977, Ernie was initiated, passed and raised in Wascana Lodge #2 in Regina. The following year, he became a 32nd degree Mason in the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Right of Freemasonry and as well became a Noble of the Mystic Shrine of Wa Wa Temple. In 2002, he joined Excelsior Chapter #21 Order of the Eastern Star, and is a member of the HI 12 Group.

Ernie has passed through the chairs in Wascana Lodge #2 becoming Master in 2000. In 2001 he became the DDGM for District #2 and served as the Most Wise Sovereign in Rose Croix and as Commander- in-Chief in the Lodge of Consistory and Past Patron of Excelsior Chapter #21.

At present he is serving as the Associate Patron of Excelsior Chapter #21 OES. Upon joining the Shrine, Ernie joined the Directors Staff unit and served as their Vice- president and President. In 1999 he became a member of the Shrine Drill Corps Unit and served as their President for two terms.
Ernie has been married to Sue for 42 years and they have two children. A daughter, Krista Macualay and husband Scott who reside in Savannah Georgia and a son Bradley Butz and wife Becky, who reside in Regina. Brad is a Master Mason in Wascana Lodge #2. Sue and Ernie have five grandchildren Taylor, Paige, Zoe, Tristan and Dylan..

Ernie has been and continues to be an active Mason and is a firm believer in the principals of Masonry. He looks forward to the challenge and promise of serving the Brethren of the Grand Lodge of Saskatchewan as well as the whole Masonic family now and in the future.
